Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions we’re asked about insurance, working with a broker, and how Midland Insurance Brokers supports our clients.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, our team is always happy to help.

Using an Insurance Broker

An insurance broker acts as your personal insurance expert. Rather than selling policies on behalf of a single insurer, we work for you. We help you understand your risks, compare multiple insurance products, and recommend the cover that best suits your business or personal needs. Most importantly, we’re in your corner if you ever need to make a claim.

Not necessarily. In fact, many clients save money because we compare multiple insurers and negotiate better terms. We also help avoid underinsurance, which can be very costly in a claim.

When you go direct, you’re often dealing with a call centre or online system. With Midland, you get a real person who knows your industry, your area, and your business. We tailor your insurance to your situation, explain the fine print, and make sure you’re not left exposed. And when something goes wrong, we handle the claim for you. You can read more about the benefits of using an insurance broker here.

Yes, our brokers are fully qualified and licensed under the Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) framework. We also undergo ongoing training to ensure our advice meets current industry standards.

Absolutely. We can review your existing policies, identify any gaps, and make the transition smooth and hassle-free. We’ll also let you know if your current policy is already the right fit - no pressure, just honest advice.

Business Insurance

We arrange a wide range of insurance solutions for both businesses and individuals. The type of cover you need will depend on your circumstances, risks, and industry.

This can include:

  • Business insurance – such as public and products liability, professional indemnity, management liability, cyber, property, and business interruption

  • Industry-specific cover – tailored insurance for particular trades and professions

  • Personal insurance – including home, contents, motor, landlord, and travel insurance

  • Specialist risks – where standard policies may not be suitable

Our role is to understand your situation and recommend cover that’s appropriate for you, rather than a one-size-fits-all policy.

Yes, we work with sole traders, start-ups, and established small-to-medium businesses every day. Whether you’re a tradie, run a retail store, or provide professional services, we’ll help you build a policy that matches your risk level and budget.

Public Liability protects you if someone is injured or their property is damaged due to your business. Professional Indemnity covers claims related to your advice, designs, or services.

In many cases, yes. Bundling your policies through one broker means fewer contacts to deal with, simplified renewals, and often better pricing. We’ll assess your situation and recommend the most efficient setup - whether that’s a bundle or keeping policies separate.

At a minimum, review your cover annually at renewal time. But if your business changes - like taking on new staff, moving locations, or buying expensive equipment - it’s a good idea to check in with your broker sooner. Your insurance should evolve with your business.

Claims & Support

Contact your Midland broker directly or submit the the relevant claim form found at midlandinsurance.com.au/claims. We'll handle everything else from there, speak with the insurer on your behalf, and keep you updated through the process.

You’ll usually need:

  • Date of the incident or when the loss was discovered or reported
  • Description of the event and the cause of the damage or loss
  • List of items being claimed
  • Photo or video evidence, if available
  • Police or incident report, if applicable
  • Expert assessments, such as reports from plumbers, builders, etc., if available
  • Any other supporting documents to assist with assessment, like receipts, repair quotes or witness statements

Don't worry if you're unsure - your broker will help you collect what's needed.

It depends on the type and complexity of the claim. Some claims are resolved within a few days, while others may take longer. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process and follow up with the insurer on your behalf.

If an insurer denies your claim, we’ll review the reasons with you and explore any options to dispute the decision or provide further evidence. You’re not left to deal with it alone - we’re in your corner every step of the way.

Yes. Our offices are located in Melbourne, Sydney, and the Mornington Peninsula, and we also have brokers based in Queensland, providing personalised support across the state.

While we may not have physical offices in every location, we work with clients in every state and territory. Whether you're nearby or remote, you'll have a dedicated broker who understands your industry and is available via phone, email, or video.

Policies & Payments

Paying online via our Ebix Online Payment Gateway is the quickest and most convenient option. It's secure, available 24/7, and allows you to use a credit or debit card safely.

You can also pay by:

  • Credit card over the phone

  • Premium funding (monthly instalments)

Premium funding enables you to pay your business and commercial insurance premiums by instalments. It frees up valuable working capital and helps improve cash flow without affecting other borrowing facilities.

Some of the additional benefits of premium funding are:

  • It is an alternative to traditional sources of finance
  • Installments may be tax deductible (seek advice from your accountant or financial advisor)
  • Easy and simple application process - your Midland broker can arrange everything for you
  • No property or asset security required
  • Competitive rates

Your invoice includes your BSB, account number, and client reference and invoice reference numbers. If you can’t locate it, contact your local Midland office and we’ll resend it to you.

In some cases, we can combine multiple policies under a single invoice for convenience. Speak with your broker to see if this is possible for your account.

Yes, business credit cards are accepted through our online payment portal or over the phone. Please check your invoice for any applicable card surcharges.
